Assistant Alpine Ski Leader (AASL)
Course Aim
This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of skiing skills,
ski leading and supervision of skiing groups. It is intended that a person who
has attained the AASL will gain further experience from operating alongside and
under the supervision of a qualified leader or instructor. The AASL should not
be expected to assume total responsibility for any group with whom he or she is
skiing. The AASL can be used as an integral part of the Duke of Edinburgh's
Award Scheme training for the residential section and can count towards the
physical recreation section.
Course Description
The four day course contains primarily on-snow sessions and an evening
programme of discussions and lectures. The course will focus on personal
performance, learning progressions, group leading and safety issues.
Course entry requirements.
Course participants should:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Be able to ski basic swing on groomed red slopes
- Be a member of the Snowsport Scotland Coaching Scheme (or that of Snowsport
England, Snowsport Wales or Northern Ireland Ski Council).
