Artificial Slope Snowboard Instructor (ASBI)
Course Aim
The Snowsport Scotland Artificial Slope Snowboard Instructor (ASBI) programme is designed
to train and qualify responsible snowboarders to instruct on artificial
surfaces.
Course Description
The ASBI training course will contain five days of practical snowboarding
activity supplemented with a supporting programme of lectures, seminars and
tutor-led discussion.
The content of the course includes:
- Snowboard technique
- Snowboard learning progression
- Lesson planning
- Lesson delivery
- Class management and safety
- Use of uplift
- Snowboard equipment
- Customer care
The ASBI training programme and qualification does not permit the holder to
instruct or lead snowboarders on snow (except indoor snow facilities).

Course entry requirements.
Before attending an ASBI course the candidate must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be able to perform smooth linked turns on an artificial surface, with good
stance and balance.
- Be a member of the Snowsport Scotland Coaching Scheme (or that of Snowsport
England, Snowsport Wales or Northern Ireland Ski Council). Note that the course
fee includes Snowsport Scotland Coaching Scheme membership for the current year
and paperwork will be sent out following the course.
