UK Snowsport Awards

The Snowlife UK Snowsport Awards have been launched as the new badge scheme for developing Skiers and Snowboarders, it replaces the BASA scheme for testing skill and ability. This change has come from a need to address recent changes in ski technique, equipment and the growth of snowboarding. Read on to find out more about this new scheme.

The UK Snowsport Award Scheme is a fun set of eleven levels that you can achieve by participation, awareness and safety in your chosen snowsport.

Participants are encouraged to work through these awards with an assessor who must be a skiing or snowboarding instructor, leader or coach

They start with Penguins and Polar Bears for children under six. Then the nine colour levels follow the same order as piste grades ending with medal colours.

  • Penguins, and Polar Bears
  • Level 1 White
  • Level 2 Yellow
  • Level 3 Green
  • Level 4 Blue
  • Level 5 Purple
  • Level 6 Red
  • Level 7 Bronze
  • Level 8 Silver
  • Level 9 Gold

The aim of the Award system is to build snowsport skills introducing developmental activities to help the participant explore all the possibilities available through snowsports in all environments. There are three main sections in each level: Terrain, Skills and Activities. Supplementary skills come under headings of Knowledge, Safety and Lifts.

All levels can be taken on snow or artificial slopes. The scheme is open to all, there is no restriction on age for doing the awards.
